K-12 Benefit Application
The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe has established the K-12 Benefit Program to give Tribal children better access to educational opportunities by assisting Tribal families with K-12 education-related expenses. Proof of enrollment in school is required to be on file each year before funds are released.
Eligibility
To be eligible to receive this Benefit, the Snoqualmie child must be: an enrolled Snoqualmie Tribal Member; and
- Enrolled in an accredited private or public elementary school, middle school, junior high school, high school, or public school secondary transition program. A student with an IEP or 504 plan in place with their school is eligible to continue to receive services under this program into adulthood until the school district has certified completion of required high school courses.
Benefit Informaiton
An eligible child in grades Kindergarten through Grade 12 may receive up to $25,000 per Tribal Academic Year to cover certain K-12 education expenses or to be used towards homeschooling expenses. This K-12 benefit is a discretionary benefit authorized by Tribal Council and subject to Tribal Council appropriations. Tribal Council reserves the right to alter or eliminate this benefit at any time. All requests must be dated within the current Tribal Academic Year to be considered for reimbursement or payment.
The full benefit amount is available for expenses in Category A:
Category A:
- Assistance for private school, summer school, summer camps that are run by school/district/or similar educational program (i.e., science camp), educational enrichment classes offered by the school, including but not limited to: tuition, fees, school fees (ASB, class fees, parking pass), field trip fees, uniform fees, and all other fees, books and supplies required by the course or program. Tuition for Before/After School Care if offered by the school or through a school affiliate.
- Tutoring. Applicants must complete a tutoring supplement form at the time of application and provide attendance reports at the end of each month/term. For students attending a tutoring program such as Sylvan Learning Center or other similar tutoring centers, the tutoring contract, assessment results and personal learning plan will be accepted in place of the tutoring supplement form. Applicant is responsible for calling and rescheduling any tutoring sessions that the student is unable to attend. Any tutoring sessions that result in a “no call, no show” will not be paid for or reimbursed by the Program. Applicant must ensure that an itemized invoice is submitted that lists the number of hours for which services are being rendered in order for the item(s) to be eligible for payment
- IEP and 504 plans The program will provide assistance as needed with expenses associated with development of an IEP or 504 plan if the expense is not covered by the school/district. Expenses associated with implementation of an IEP or 504 plan should be covered by state/district resources. If an expense is recommended and not being covered, a letter from the school advising of the need will be required
Up to $3000 of the overall benefit per Tribal Academic Year may be used towards the following categories:
Category B: School lunch program fees, club fees, activity fees, sports fees, non school affiliated sport fees/extracurricular classes & supplies consistent with opportunities offered by schools at large (music, art, sport leagues). Student will be required to provide proof of enrollment in the course or program.
Category C: Test fees or prep classes for SAT, ACT, or Drivers Education, application fees for college
Category D: School spirit expenses: school logo gear, letterman’s jackets, class rings, student admission to school events, and school photos
Category E: Graduation expenses: cap, gown, tassel, announcements and other senior gear included in graduation announcement packages.
Up to $1500 of the overall benefit per Tribal Academic Year may be used towards the following category:
Category F: Technology and software costs, including Microsoft Office or similar, educational software, and technology equipment as required or recommended by a teacher, tutor, or school program. Technology and software costs, including Microsoft Office or similar, other educational software, and technology equipment as required or recommended by a teacher, tutor, homeschool need, or school program. Purchase of same/similar technology equipment is only allowed every 3 years. Laptops, desktops, ipads, tablets are all defined for the purposes of this program as similar items.
Ineligible Expenses
- Non-school affiliated religious, social, fraternal or organization dues; Parental club or chaperone fees;
- Homeschooling expenses;
- Therapy of any kind (speech, sensory deprivation, behavioral etc.). These expenses are medical in nature and therefore
must go through PRC or insurance. - A private tutor’s equipment and supplies;
- Food, purchased at sports or other events;
- Fines and penalties (e.g., late fees, overdue/damaged books);
- General School or classroom supplies (i.e., pens, folders, paper, etc.);
- Formal clothing, accessories, or other expenses for school dances; and
- Recreational camps must go through TCR Program.
